Mother files wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of son

Posted on May 13th, 2011 No Comments

A woman from California recently filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles after her 18-year-old son was shot and killed by police officers.

According to reports, officers of the LAPD were attempting to apprehend a friend of the 18-year-old man. The man, who was sitting in a parked vehicle, observed the incident and began to drive away. The officers involved claimed that the 18-year-old man ran over one of the department’s undercover agents with his vehicle, causing the officers to open fire.

The man was shot in his left arm, and the bullet then punctured his heart and lungs. He died shortly after being shot. The mother of the man is suing the LAPD and the city of Los Angeles for $10 million, stating that the shooting was negligent and unreasonable.

Pork loins recalled because of unlabeled ingredient

Posted on May 9th, 2011 No Comments

The North Carolina-based company, Smithfield Packing, recently issued a voluntary recall of its portobello mushroom flavored pork loins last week. The recall was issued because the pork loins were found to contain whey, a dairy allergen, which was not labeled as an ingredient.

The unlabeled ingredient was found during a routine inspection of the product. The company reported their finding to the USDA and issued the recall immediately after. The company has stated that they are dedicated to providing safe food to their customers.

Because of the whey, anyone with a dairy allergy who consumes the pork loins could be at risk of an allergic reaction. The company has asked anyone who has purchased the pork loins to return them to the store from which they purchased them for a refund.

According to a witness, the accident occurred as a man was traveling on a motorcycle on the northbound lanes when he passed a few car and then failed to negotiate a curve correctly.

Police then say that the driver of the motorcycle lost control and struck a wall, which caused him to be thrown from the motorcycle and into oncoming lanes of traffic. He was then struck by an SUV.
