Police who caused the death of teenage girl settles lawsuit

Posted on July 25th, 2013 No Comments

On July 15, Louisville Metro Police Officer James Adams paid the parents of Sarah Bearden $700,000 as damages for the death of their daughter who was killed on May 22, 2010 when the vehicle she was driving had a collision with the policeman’s squad car at Hurstbourne Parkway and Headley Hill Road.

The judge also ordered Adams to write a letter apologizing and admitting responsibility for the accident to the family. In the letter, Adams said he was of the opinion that he did not “[bear] any responsibility for this tragic and unfortunate accident” at the time of the crash, but that he changed his mind after later investigations into the accident.

Losing a loved one in an auto accident is devastating and, although nothing can bring him or her back, a wrongful death lawsuit can help a family achieve a sense of justice after such an accident.
