A man was injured Sunday morning after debris from Orlando’s demolished Amway Arena traveled further than expected. Over 200 pounds of explosives imploded the Orlando Magic’s former home, sending pieces of reinforcing bar flying.
The 33 year-old man was nearly two blocks away from the old arena when he was injured. An eight-inch piece of rebar hit his lower shin, breaking his fibula. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital and had surgery earlier this week.
The man’s friend, who was with him when the accident occurred, says he remembers hearing a whistling sound and feeling small pieces of concrete hit him. The president of Dykon Explosive Demolition Corp. has paid for the man’s medical bills.
