A Florida man suffered serious burn injuries after an e-cigarette he was smoking suddenly exploded in his face.
E-cigarettes, or electronic cigarettes, are not FDA approved but are used by many to quit smoking. The device mimics the flavor and physical sensation of smoking tobacco.
The 57 year-old was smoking the e-cigarette last week when his wife heard an explosion that sounded like a firecracker. All of the man’s teeth were knocked out, and he lost part of his tongue. Debris from the explosion were so hot that they melted some items and started a fire.
The local fire chief believes the rechargeable battery in the e-cigarette caused the explosion.
