According to the Kentucky State Police, two people were killed in car accidents over the Thanksgiving holiday.
The department, saddened by the deaths, say that this number is actually very low compared to previous years. Lt. David Jude says that law enforcement usually sees five to ten deaths during holiday weekends.
One of the fatal accidents happened in Mercer County when a car ran a red light and struck another vehicle, killing the driver. The second crash, which occurred in Fayette County, is a suspected drunk driving accident. The driver was killed after he hit a tree on Yarnallton Pike.
The Kentucky State Police say they will step up patrols during Christmas and New Years to stop drunk, aggressive, and reckless drivers.
Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the victims.
