Toyota is recalling over 550,000 vehicles worldwide; 447,000 of the cars were sold in the United States.
The recall effects the 2004-2005 Camry, 2004 Avalon, and 2006 Highlander HV. Lexus brands include the 2004-2005 ES330 and RX330 as well as the 2006 RX00h.
An error in the engine’s crankshaft pulley could cause steering to become very difficult. Toyota says if the defect is not corrected, the power steering pump could break from the pulley. Fortunately, no accidents or injuries have been reported.
This is the third vehicle recall this year by Toyota. In January, the automaker recalled 1.7 million Toyota and Lexus models and in February an additional 2.17 million vehicles were recalled.
