Five employees at an Ukiah, California nursing home have been charged with misdemeanor elderly abuse and failure to report elderly abuse after three employees lathered patients with oil. Seven residents that suffer from dementia were covered with ointment to make them slippery as a prank for the nurses that came on for the next shift shift.
Two employees, 52 and 34 years-old, have been sentenced to 20 days in jail and 2 years probation for orchestrating the prank. Another employee must serve 150 hours of community service for misdemeanor elderly abuse, and two other workers were sentenced to 100 hours of community service for not reporting the incident. All of those involved have had their nursing assistant licenses revoked. None of the patients were harmed by the prank.
