The North Carolina-based company, Smithfield Packing, recently issued a voluntary recall of its portobello mushroom flavored pork loins last week. The recall was issued because the pork loins were found to contain whey, a dairy allergen, which was not labeled as an ingredient.
The unlabeled ingredient was found during a routine inspection of the product. The company reported their finding to the USDA and issued the recall immediately after. The company has stated that they are dedicated to providing safe food to their customers.
Because of the whey, anyone with a dairy allergy who consumes the pork loins could be at risk of an allergic reaction. The company has asked anyone who has purchased the pork loins to return them to the store from which they purchased them for a refund.
